Q: Who are Lap Band Solutions and what do they do?

A. Lap Band Solutions is an office that works with insurance companies to obtain surgery approvals. They are not a part of Dr. Benavides' office. Please contact them at 972-716-9991 with any insurance related questions. C.C., Kristina, or Jasmine will be able to assist you.

Q: What happens once my registration packet and copy of my insurance card is submitted to your office?

A. When we receive your packet Lap Band Solutions will send a Letter of Predetermination to your insurance company. They send them out in the order in which they are received be fair to all of our patients.

Q: How long will it take to get an answer from my insurance company?

A. Once the Letter of Predetermination is received by your insurance it can take any where from 4 to 8 weeks for them to make a determination.

Q: Can I do anything to speed the process along?

A. Yes! After your letter is received and put into the insurance company’s system, it is extremely helpful for you call your insurance company on a regular basis to inquire about your Letter of Predetermination.

Q: What do I ask when I call my insurance company?

A. 1.) Tell the customer service representative that you are inquiring about the Letter of Predetermination sent by Dr. Benavides office for the Laporscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding.

2.) Ask them how long their predetermination process takes.

3.) Call often! Our patients that call on a regular basis usually gets their answer quicker than the patients that don’t call at all.

Q: How will I know if I am approved or denied?

A. Your insurance company will send you a letter by mail. You will usually receive your letter before our office does.

Q: If I am approved for the Lap Band surgery, what happens next?

A. Once we receive verification of approval from your insurance company, we will call you to schedule surgery.

Q: Is there any other useful information that you can provide to me?

A. Yes, BioEnterics (the producers of the LAP-BAND) has an "Insurance Approval Guide" that many of our patients consider to be very helpful.
