Dr. Richard Benavides is a general surgeon, specializing in LAP-BAND surgery. He was born and raised in the San Antonio area and has four children.

Dr. Benavides went to medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. He did his General Surgery Internship and Residency at Scott and White Hospital in Temple, Texas from 1981-1986. He has worked in a variety of settings in Texas and Alabama since 1986, including Lyster Army Hospital from 1986 to 1991 where on average he saw 300 outpatients and performed 40 surgeries a month. Currently he practices at Surgery Center of Richardson and periodically at College Station Medical Center in College Station, TX.
